Halloween Hummus

Chipotle Pumpkin Hummus

1 400mL can chickpeas
1 cup pure pumpkin
2 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp olive oil, plus more for topping
1 tbsp lemon juice
1-2 cloves garlic
1/2 tsp chipotle pepper powder
1/4 tsp coriander seed powder
1 tsp salt

Black Tahini Hummus

1 400mL can chickpeas
1/3 cup black tahini
2 tbsp olive oil, plus more for topping
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp water
1-2 cloves garlic
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt

optional toppings: pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, olive oil

Method

Chipotle Pumpking Hummus

  1. Add ingredients for chipotle pumpkin hummus to a food processor or high speed blender.
  2. Blend until everything is smooth and incorporated. You may need to scrape down the sides once or twice to make sure that everything is incorporated.
  3. Scoop into a serving dish or storage container*. Top with a drizzle of olive oil and optional toppings. Refrigerate for up to one week if not eating immediately.

Black Tahini Hummus

  1. Add ingredients for black tahini hummus to a food processor or high speed blender.
  2. Blend until everything is smooth and incorporated. You may need to scrape down the sides once or twice to make sure that everything is incorporated. If you find that your hummus is too thick, you can add more water until it reaches your desired consistency. Keep in mind that the water may turn your hummus more of a gravestone grey than black.
  3. Scoop into a serving dish or storage container*. Top with a drizzle of olive oil and optional toppings. Refrigerate for up to one week if not eating immediately.

Notes:

  1. *To achieve the swirl affect and present the two hummuses in the same dish, scoop each into either half of a serving dish. Using a knife or chopstick, swirl the hummuses together to marble the colours.
  2. I love serving these together for Halloween with Sprouted Spelt Flatbread and dark/purple coloured foods. I used blue corn tortilla chips, black grapes, extra dark chocolate, and purple carrots, but more options include purple potato chips, black berries, and purple figs. Adding some green ingredients would also be Halloween themed, like celery sticks, broccoli, and even an additional dip of guacamole!
