Cedar Tea Two Ways

*cedar must be avoided during pregnancy*

Golden Cedar Tea

Rich, earthy, and well-rounded. Packed with vitamin C, volatile oils, proanthocyanidins, and resveratrol. I got this recipe from Blissful Vitality, who explains these health benefits in more detail.

2 cups cedar leaf clippings (loosely packed)
4 cups water

  1. Rinse leaves in cold water to remove any dirt particles.
  2. Bring water to a boil in a small pot.
  3. Add cedar leaves and allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes (until tea is golden in colour). The amount of liquid will reduce by about half.
  4. Strain to remove the leaves.
  5. Skim the top layer of oil that has separated from the tea. This is very important! If you do not skim the fat layer from the tea you may experience extreme joint and muscle pain in the next day or two after drinking (I have made this mistake so that you don’t have to!). To enjoy the benefits without the pain, be sure to skim the fat!
  6. Pour into a mug and enjoy the rich, healing tea.

Quick Cedar Tea

Light, aromatic, and uplifting. Contains the same benefits as Golden Cedar Tea, but at a significantly lower level. Preferred for it’s comforting aroma rather than its medicinal properties.

2-3 cedar leaf clippings
1-2 cups of water

  1. Rinse leaves in cold water to remove any dirt particles.
  2. Bring water to a boil in a kettle or small pot.
  3. Place leaves in a mug and pour water over the leaves.
  4. Allow to sit for 2-4 minutes, until tea is fragrant and light green. You may choose to remove the leaves or leave them in while drinking.
